On Saturday the 9th of February Head Chef of the Malton, John O Leary and Wine Buff Stephen Wallace collaborated to create an absolutely wonderful evening of gastronomic pleasure. Guests were welcomed in the lobby of the hotel with a delicious glass of sparkling wine from Spain; Alcardet Brut, especially selected for it’s light golden colour, mellow mouth filling body and delicate mousse. Guests were drawn through to the Garden Room Restaurant by the dreamy strains of a lilting harp and flute duet, wonderfully played by local musicians The Trant Sisters.

The first course was served and accompanied by an unusual sweet dessert wine from Hungary. This unique wine cut through the fatty foie gras and complemented the flavours of the dish quite brilliantly! Mr. Wallace spoke for a few moments before each of the remaining seven courses were served to explain how and why the choices were made.

Guests were encouraged to pay attention by the promise of a quiz. The winning entrant received a beautiful selection of wines courtesy of The Wine Buff. However, with such culinary delights on offer, and such warm and friendly service, everyone was a winner on the night!
